My favourite cookbooks

Hello beautiful people,

If you have been following me for a while you would probably know I am sticking to a etogenic lifestyle and a no sugar approach hence my love for cookbooks. I do not own a lot of cookbooks but I want to share with you the few I find myself using all the time.

The first few books are from author Sarah Wilson which has been greatly influential to me when I decided to quit sugar a couple of years ago . She also published a book about anxiety but I won’t go into that now

The I quit sugar cookbooks are a great introduction for people willing to start giving the white stuff a miss and are loaded with tips, info, research and easy recipes. They do no contain overcomplicated ingredients or lengthy recipes, that is what I love about them. You will also find that one of the staples in Sarah’s cooking ( mine too) is a slow cooker. They are darn cheap, last forever, energy efficient and a great way to prepare family meals without a lot of fuss. You can find them here

She also released recently a book called Simplicious flow which is a massive book about making your kitchen perpetual: in other words learning to waste less by reusing what you already have. This is such a great book filled with tricks, recipes and ideas to make healthy meals and being environmentally conscious at the same time. The book is not out in the U.K. yet but I ordered mine here

If you are intrigued by the Ketogenic diet but do not know where to start I suggest the PK cookbook by GP Sarah Myhill: she is an actual doctor who has been researching chronic fatigue for many years and an advocate of the ketogenic diet. This is not your typical cookbook full of nice pictures but rather an informative introduction to the ketogenic diet ( she doe not advocate consuming milk hence the PK diet which is a mix of Paleo and Keto)full of little tips and it also includes a one-week meal plan with a shopping list to get you started. You can buy it here

These are my go to cookbooks : it is thanks to the i quit sugar and Simplicious flow books that i got so much more into cooking from scratch and using my slow cooker. I learnt how to cook and freeze and prep for the week ahead with minimal effort. The PK cookbook gave me confidence in starting my ketogenic journey especially using the meal plan provided.

I hope you find some of these recommendations helpful and may health be with you all.

Gen.Peel microexfoliating cream

Happy new year my lovelies,

2019 is truly here and i had to share with you something new, at least new to me. I found this little gem of a cream during the sale in Harrods where it was reduced from £96 to £24.50 and who does not love a bargain?

Honestly I had never heard of this product before and all the info i could find was in Spanish as the brand is such but after some digging and after trying it now for three weeks I am ready to report.

an exfoliating cream suitable for sensitive skin that is aimed at reducing pigmentation, wrinkles, pore size and the usual stuff.

Gluconolactone : is a natural substance that can often be found in creams and serums. Gluconolactone, a polyhydroxy acid (PHA), offers all the benefits of AHAs but it is gentle to the skin and is suitable for sensitive skin.

It also possesses antioxidant properties making it a great addition to your skincare routine.

Peelmoist : papain and HFN to provide gente efxoliation and intense hydration.

You can use this lightweight cream in two different ways:

1- as a shock treatmeant (which is what i am doing) apply it nightly for 30 days and then a couple of times a week,

2- as a weekly efxfoliating treatment two to three times a week.

Apply at night and wash off in the morning.

Three weeks in this is what i am happy to share with you:

1- the cream is very lightweight and I apply every night on face and neck. I follow with my own moisturiser (c.e.o. by Sunday Riley) to prevent dryness.

2 – I have only experienced very mild peeling as a side effect from this treatment.

3- three weeks in my skin looks just overall fresher, I cannot really pintpoint what exactly it is but even collegues and friends have complemented my somehow rested appearance (especially after a 2 week flu spell)

4 – I would have not paid £96, for that price there are better and more effective exfoliating treatments out there but for £24.5 was a good steal.

If you can still find it around I would advise to try one, let me know what you guys think in the comment section.

CeraVe eye repair cream

Hi lovelies,

I hope everyone is great and is enjoying the festive mood. Today I want to share with you something truly cheap and cheerful by Cerave: eye repair cream. If you have been following me for a while you should know eye creams are my passion and I own dozens but I am always looking for the next best thing. But first a few words on the brand CeraVe: this is a brand developed by dermatologists whose main focus is on ceramides, essential fatty acids and lipids.

What are ceramides : they are the most abundant part of the skin making up over 5 0 per cent of its composition. In skincare they are used to replenish lipids lost through dryness, external aggressions and aging process. So they essentially help hydrate and strengthen the skin, making it also appear plumper and firmer.

Now to our eye cream, which I purchased from boots for £9.99

WHAT IS IT : a super cream designed for the eye area ( but can be used anywhere on the face) to strengthen the skin and plump fine lines.

Purified Water, Niacinamide, Cetyl Alcohol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycerin, Propanediol, Isononyl Isononanoate, Jojoba Esters, Peg-20 Methyl Glucose Sesquistearate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Methyl Glucose Sesquistearate, Ceramide 3, Ceramide 6-Ii, Ceramide 1, Hyaluronic Acid, Zinc Citrate, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Almond) Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Chrysanthellum Indicum Extract, Tocopherol, Equisetum Arvense Extract, Asparagopsis Armata Extract, Ascophyllum Nodosum Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Carbomer, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Sorbitol, Triethanolamine, Laureth-4, Butylene Glycol, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Tetrasodium Edta, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Sodium Hydroxide, Phytosphingosine, Cholesterol, Xanthan Gum

The second ingredient is niacinamide, which is vitamin b3, and is a fantastic skin-restoring ingredient , effective for brightening skin and diminishing fine lines. We also have glicerin for added hydration, the mix of ceramides to make skin appear plumper, hyaluronic acid to retain moisture and plant extracts to sooth the delicate eye area. Eye creams with these ingredients can easily retail for £50 or over so this is a great price.

This eye cream is a dream to use , it comes out a little thick but spreads beautifully around the eye area . It is packaged in a tube so all the air sensitive ingredients will remain stable. I did not excperience any problem layering this cream under my concealer and foundation. Also found it is great to use in conjunction with my Trentino in at night to prevent dryness. This product is fragrance free so suitable also for sensitive eyes.

Bourjois 10 hour sleep foundation

Hello lovelies,

yes, I know, this foundation was discountinued ages ago but I managed to grab a few bottles on eBay for 7 quid and since this has always been one of my holy grail foundations I thought I would share a few things about it.

First of all I think this foundation was replaced by Bourjois with the Healthy mix foundation , which I kind of like but isn’t as nice or as illuminating as the 10 hour sleep one. Also I loooove the smell of this foundation …..

The foundation itself is oil free but I don’t think it will suit oily /combo skin as it tends to set to a dewy finish. If you have normal/dry to very dry skin t should work for you.

It offers light coverage and has a very runny consistency which makes it a dream to blend. The color choice, being a discontinued item, are very limited . I use color 74 wich is a warmish tone for light olive skin.

If you want to give it a try for 7 quid I do think it is a great product for everyday or as a tinted moisturiser replacement.

Let me know what you think.

Just a quick one

Hello my lovelies ,

I am currently working on a second video about anxiety and psychotropic medications , but in the meantime I started using Drunk Elephant and I also managed to get my hands on Sunday Riley Good Genes from the states ( the U.K. version has been reformulated and swapped lactic for glycolic….more to come).I will be reviewing these products asap so stick with me.

lots of love,

Being honest

Hello my skincare junkies ,

I am just back from a few days in the Algarve and while sunbathing I had a little time to reflect and to ponder: Instagram, social media in general and the beauty community are guilty of promoting images that are not real ,unachievable. In the pursuit of these elusive standards of beauty we, myself included ,often times lose track of what is real and important. Filters, photoshop, editing and so on create an illusion which is just that : an illusion. It’s fine as long as we understand that and we don’t take it too seriously , but when we start comparing ourselves then it is a losing battle as there is no way we can compete with computer generated images and we SHOULDN’T.

I am extremely passionate about beauty ,about skincare and I believe beautiful skin can make us feel amazing and empowered but I also believe and accept that we all have different ideas of what beautiful is,and that’s fine .I am going to post a picture I took this arvo,  no make up ,no Instagram filters, no beauty filter on my camera just a straight shot .I have flaws and the first step towards really loving yourself is embracing who you are for who you are. I don’t want anyone ever feeling insecure or sad about their looks ,but rather happy with themselves and open to the possibility of learning new trick to ENHANCE! Skincare can be a great tool for that . Rant over . Let me know your thoughts in the comments box .

Love ,

Retinol trio

Just a quick one my lovelies :

My current retinol regimen includes these fantastic products. Let me know what you think.

View this post on Instagram

Quick update on retinol : These are my three favourite retinol products 1 0.5 percent tretinoin (the strongest but also the most likely to give you adverse reactions so build up slowly) 2 @paulaschoiceuk 1 percent retinol plus vitamin c ( this is still one of the best non prescription retinols out there) 3 @sundayriley Luna uses a retinoid Esther to mimic affects of stronger retinol. Probably the mildest of the three but when used at night, give your skin a gorgeous glow by morning. Plus it's packed full of antioxidants #retinol #tretinoin #retinoid #luna #Smoothing #Antiaging #skincare #nighttime #regimen #routine #skincarejunkie #addictedtobeauty #blogger #alexinwonderland #37yearsyoung #bbloggers #bbloggersuk #bbloggersaus #travelblogger #powerhouse #mix #passion #goforit #linesbegone #sundayriley #paulaschoice

Sunday Riley juno hydroactive cellular face oil

Dear skincare junkies,

it’s been a while since my last post as I have been busy with other projects but here I am bringing you one of my favourite face oils: Juno by Sunday Riley.

Despite the mouthful that the name is, this is seriously good stuff especially for dry, dehydrated and sentistive skin and since winter is fast approaching this side of the globe I thought I’d share it with you.

WHAT IS IT  well the promise of it being a dry oil is a tad misleading as this is an oil, nothing dry about it.If you can get past that you will love its nourishing, soothing and plumping properties.

WHATS IN IT  a fantastic cocktail of cold pressed oil rich in antioxidant and omegas: blackberry, blueberry, cranberry, raspberry oil plus carrot oil, black cumin oil and broccoli oil.  Pretty much a cooking oil 🙂 Jokes aside all these oil have good research behind them in terms of antioxidant properties.

HOW TO USE IT  as I mentioned earlier, I don’t find this oil to absorb as quickly as advertised so I mostly tend to use it at night unless I have overdone it with retinol the night before and my morning skin needs extra hydration.I like to take 4 drops, warm them up in my palm and massage them all over face and neck.

WHO IS IT FOR  anyone with dry skin, dehydrated skin, lucklustre skin. not particurarly suited for oily or blemish prone skin ( they offer another oil for that called Martian which I have not tried, yet).

PRICE £54 FOR 30ml ( some stores offer a 15ml too for £27)

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE  there is absolutely nothing I dislike about this product(maybe the scent is not the most alluring). It cocoons your skin in moisture, gives you a beautiful dewy finish while delivering lots of antioxidants.Love ,Lov e and Love.
